My name is David Crinnion and I started Oceans Consulting to help companies and people find eco friendly and sustainable solutions for their ideas.

I’m a materials science engineer and product development consultant focused on helping companies make smarter, more responsible material decisions, without sacrificing performance, manufacturability, or credibility.

My work sits at the intersection of materials science, sustainability, and industrial design. I specialize in evaluating and developing bio-based, compostable, and recyclable materials, and translating early-stage ideas into feasible, testable product solutions. That means not just identifying “better” materials, but understanding how they behave under real conditions, how they can be processed at scale, and where sustainability claims hold up — or fall apart.

I’ve led and supported projects across consumer products, packaging, and medical-adjacent applications, working hands-on with polymers, elastomers, films, and molded components. My approach is grounded in data, prototyping, and testing: not greenwashing. I help teams navigate tradeoffs early, reduce technical risk, and make decisions they can stand behind as products move toward market.

Based in Portland, Oregon, I work with startups, founders, and product teams who want sustainability to be engineered, not just marketed.

What I bring

  • Deep experience with polymer and elastomer systems (bio-based, compostable, recyclable)

  • Practical understanding of manufacturing processes (injection molding, thermoforming, films)

  • Expertise in food-contact and safety-adjacent materials

  • A rigorous, transparent approach to sustainability claims

  • Hands-on prototyping, testing, and feasibility validation

How I work

I partner closely with clients during early and mid-stage development, when material decisions matter most. Engagements are collaborative, focused, and grounded in what’s technically and economically realistic.

If you’re exploring new materials, questioning existing ones, or trying to reduce impact without introducing risk, I help you find the right path forward.
